(Undated)– It may not feel like it, but the severe weather season is just around the corner…and the National Weather Service and emergency management officials want to make sure everyone’s ready for it.
For that reason, the week of March 25th through the 29th has been designated as “severe weather awareness week” in the state of Iowa.
Todd Heitkamp, a Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, urges everyone to use the week to review severe weather hazards and what to do when they treaten or are actually occurring.
To assist in the effort, a mock tornado drill will be held statewide in Iowa this Wednesday. It will start at 10:00 a.m. with the issuance of a watch…followed by a warning at 10:15 a.m…at which time civil defense sirens will be sounded. Residents, businesses, industries, schools and other groups are urged to participate by holding drills at that same time.
