(Spirit Lake)– A request from the Dickinson County Conservation Board to add the former Back Porch restaurant building to the county’s insurance was a topic of discussion at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
The building was moved to Kenue Park where it will be converted into a nature learning center.
John Walters made the request, saying the Conservation Board became concerned when a nearby house was hit by lightning earlier this month.
The additional insurance is expected to cost the county an additional 700 to 800 dollars a year. That struck a nerve with Supervisor Wayne Northey…who voted against an earlier request for an easement allowing the building to be moved to the county park. Northey reiterated his original concern that the project is costing the county money.
But in the end, supervisors June Goldman and David Gottsche voted in favor of adding the building to the county’s insurance, while Northey abstained.
