Winter Games Planning Shifts Into High Gear

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Planning is well underway for this January’s University of Okoboji Winter Games.

Abbey Larson of Okoboji Tourism is the chair of this year’s Winter Games; Lance Evans is Co-Chair.

Larson says the committee held its first organizational meeting October 17th. She says they batted around some ideas for some new events, in addition to the traditional ones. She says they’re looking at adding a Pinochle tournament to this year’s line-up along with a “long drive” contest on the ice.

Another major change this year will be in the Chocolate Classic. For the first time in that event’s history, Larson says they’re looking for a new location. She says the event has outgrown the Lakes Art Center, which has hosted it since its inception. Anyone interested in hosting the Chocolate Classic should contact the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.

The 26th annual University of Okoboji Winter Games will be held January 27th through the 29th.
