(Spirit Lake)– Some changes could in store for a busy intersection that lies right smack between the cities of Spirit Lake and Okoboji.
The intersection of “Stakeout Road”, or 175th Street, and the YMCA Road, also known as 235th Avenue, has been seeing increased traffic lately, and along with that, an increase in accidents.
The board of supervisors discussed the issue at their meeting Tuesday with County Engineer Dan Eckert.
Currently, north-south traffic on 235th Avenue is required to stop at 175th Street, while east-west traffic on 175th Street flows unimpeded. Several options are being explored, including the possibility of making the intersection a four-way stop and/or reducing the speed limit in that area.
Eckert told the supervisors he’ll meet with city officials in Spirit Lake and Okoboji to see what they’d like to have done.
