(Emmetsburg)– A car-train collision in Palo Alto county Wednesday has landed an Algona man in a Mason City hospital.
Sheriff Dennis Goeders says the collision happened around 6:00 a.m. about three and-a-half miles east of Emmetsburg on 380th Street.
Derek Becknal of Algona was westbound in a 2000 Ford pickup when he collided with a northbound train as it was heading into Emmetsburg.
Becknal had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Emmetsburg Fire Department. He was transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital and was later life-flighted to Mercy Hospital in Mason City.
The pickup was a total loss.
