(Storm Lake)– Two Spencer women are accused of forging checks from the account of one of their grandmother’s.
Earlier this month Storm Lake police launched an investigation after two forged checks were passed at the Storm Lake Wal-Mart. The checks were written on the account of Carolona Reinert of Spencer.
The investigation revealed the checks were being written by Reinert’s granddaughter and her friend. A total of 12 forged checks were recovered from different businesses in Storm Lake.
Storm Lake police questioned the women this week and they admitted to stealing three books of checks from Reinert.
The granddaughter, 18-year-old Madison Selzer, was arrested and charged with 12 counts of forgery…each a class “D” felony; one count of second degree theft…a class “D” felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed in the Buena Vista county jail on bond of 127-thousand dollars.
The second suspect, 19-year-old Cassandra Loa of Spencer, was arrested and charged with 12 counts of aiding and abetting forgery…each a class “D” felony. She was booked into jail with a 117-thousand dollar cash bond.
The investigation is continuing and any other businesses holding checks on the same account is asked to contact the Storm Lake Police Department.
