(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county and six of its municipalities are now officially “Storm Ready”.
The designation was officially relayed to Mike Ehret, the county’s 911, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Coordinator at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting. The designation was presented by Todd Heitkamp and Greg Harmon of the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls. Heitkamp says the designation speaks highly of the work Ehret has been doing that resulted in part of additional outdoor warning sirens being installed. Ehret was also sited for ongoing training and annual storm spotting classes each spring.
Only six counties and 18 municipalities have been recognized as “storm ready” in Iowa.
Special signs with the designation will be going up in unincorporated areas of the county and in the six municipalities. They are Spirit Lake, Milford, Arnolds Park, Okoboji, Terril and Wahpeton.
