Clay County Races Still Up In The Air

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– City council races in two Clay county towns are hinging on next week’s canvass by the county board of supervisors.

There were ties for council seats Tuesday in both Dickens and Rossie.

In Dickens, write-in candidates Mark Jones and John Miller were competing for an unexpired two-year term; both received 21 votes. The seat was left vacant when Dick Dillard resigned in July. Clay County Auditor Marge Pitts says the board of supervisors will draw names out of a hat to determine the winner.

Three candidates tied for two open seats on the Rossie city council. Elaine Zahrt, Beth Starkson and Stacy Baas each received eight write-in votes Tuesday. The supervisors will have to draw names to decide which two women will fill those seats as well.
