(Spirit Lake)– A weekend traffic stop in Spirit Lake has led to multiple drug and child endangerment charges against a brother and sister.
Spirit Lake police say officers pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation shortly after 4:00 p.m. Saturday in the Great Lakes Mall parking lot. During the stop it was determined that a male passenger, 35-year-old Kyle Ervin Stafford or Little Rock, had an active warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up small packages of a substance believed to be crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia. The driver, 40-year-old Suzanne Marie Dalbotton of Onida, South Dakota was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine; possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment.
Stafford was charged with possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance-marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment.
During the investigation it was determined Stafford and Dalbotton are brother and sister. Each had a child in the car, resulting in the child endangerment charges. The children were later released to grandparents.
Another male passenger was released without charges.
Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
