New Storm Dumps More Snow On Region

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Another winter storm in as many days is dumping snow on the Iowa Great Lakes.

Snow started falling early this (Wed.) afternoon and gradually increased in coverage and intensity. Nearly an inch of new snow had fallen in Spirit Lake by 5:00 p.m., with an addition two to three expected before it diminishes around midnight. A snow advisory is in effect for most of the region.

Fortunately, no wind is expected with this system, so blowing and drifting won’t be a problem. Roads, however, are 100 percent snow and slush covered and are very slick.

Numerous activities for this (Wed.) evening have either been canceled or postponed. If you’re unsure about a particular event you should call ahead first to make sure it’s still on before venturing out. And if you do go out, drive safely and allow for plenty of extra time to reach your destination. Several accidents have been reported in the area.
