Well Known Spirit Lake Attorney Tabbed As 2005 Citizen Of The Years

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– A Spirit Lake attorney who’s been extremely active in numerous organizations and his church has been named “Citizen Of The Years” for 2005.

The honor was bestowed upon Jim Ladegaard by the Spirit Lake Noon Kiwanis Club at their Christmas party Wednesday evening at the Inn.

Ladegaard told the crowd he’s very honored to receive the prestigious award, saying he first heard about it when he and his wife Sandy returned to Spirit Lake in 1969. Ladegaard says he remembers reading in the paper how Pete Nary was named Citizen of The Years that year. Ladegaard says that impressed him right away as to just how important the award is, saying if it’s an award Pete Nary has won, that it is indeed a very special honor.

So what does the award mean to Ladegaard? He jokingly responded by saying that he’ll no longer have to wash dishes during his annual fishing trip to Canada with several buddies. Ladegaard says it was a standing joke that whoever hadn’t been named Citizen of The Years had to wash the dishes. Now, he says, he’ll be the cook.

On a more serious note, Ladegaard extended his sincere appreciation for being selected for the award, saying he’s deeply moved and humbled by it.
