(Des Moines)– The State Natural Resources Commission says it plans to create a nighttime speed limit of 25 miles-per-hour on lakes in Dickinson county.
The commission voted last week to approve a notice that would set the limit.
The matter now goes before the Legislative Rule Review Committee for consideration. A public hearing is set for January 17th at the Arnolds Park City Hall.
The proposed limit is five miles-per-hour slower than a local group pushed for after a Perry dentist died in a nighttime hit-and-run accident on West Lake Okoboji in August. The state has charged another man with drunken boating in the accident.
Officials say the 25 mile-per-hour limit would be in effect from a half hour after sunset to sunrise on all county lakes.
