Crash On Hwy 71 In North Milford Sends One Person To LRH

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– A two-vehicle collision on Highway 71 on the north edge of Milford late Sunday afternoon sent one person to the hospital and shut down the roadway for about a half-hour.

Milford police say 18-year-old Anthony Masad of Spirit Lake was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on Highway 71 when he lost control. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a 1992 Buick Park Avenue driven by 30-year-old Lorann Cedars of Milford.

Cedars was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. The extent of her injuries wasn’t certain. No injuries were reported to Masad.

No charges were filed in connection with the mishap, which took place around 5:20 p.m. Authorities say the road was 100 percent glare-ice at the time. Bob Clark of the Milford Police Department says officers had all they could do to stand up at the scene.

The mishap resulted in the highway being closed for about a half-hour while authorities cleared the wreckage. Extensive damage was reported to both vehicles.

Conditions were so slick at the time that authorities say a second mishap occurred while they were cleaning up from the earlier one. It took place at the intersection of Highway 71 and Terrace Park Boulevard. No injuries were reported in that mishap.

Milford police were assisted on the scene by the Arnolds Park and Okoboji Police Departments, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Milford and Arnolds Park Rescue and Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance.
