SL Residents To Vote On Proposal To Change LOST Allocation

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake residents will head to the polls in 2006 to decide whether or not the city should change the way proceeds from the Local Option Sales Tax are doled out.

The city council Tuesday adopted a resolution tentatively scheduling a special election on the matter for this coming March.

Currently 40 percent of Local Option Sales Tax proceeds go to the city’s General Fund for tax relief with the remaining 60 percent going for capital improvements. Under the change being proposed, 100 percent of the proceeds would go to the General Fund for property tax relief.
