Local Fire Department Awarded DNR Grant

November 22, 2014

(Wallingford)– A local fire department has been awarded a matching grant through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says his department will use the money to purchase communication equipment and a portable floating strainer…a device used to draft water out of lakes. The equipment will be installed on the department’s new truck purchased in June.

The new equipment is valued at 725-dollars.

Over the past few years the Wallingford Fire Department has received about 2,500-dollars in DNR matching grants. That money was used to purchase equipment primarily for the department’s grass response unit.

Communities with populations under 10-thousand are eligible to apply for up to 3,500-dollars a year from the DNR, with a 50 percent local match.
