(Sibley)– A two-vehicle collision today (Friday) in Osceola county has claimed the life of a Sibley man.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 78-year-old Alfred Johnson of Sibley was driving a 1990 Plymouth Acclaim northbound on Highway 60. Authorities say Johnson was attempting to make a left-turn onto County Road L-40 when he turned into the path of a southbound semi driven by 53-year-old Arlan Arends of Little Rock.
Johnson was transported to the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley and was later transferred to McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls where he later died. No injuries were reported to Arends.
The vehicle Johnson was driving was totalled; 30-thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the semi owned by Arlan Arends Trucking.
The mishap took place shortly before 11:00 a.m. It resulted in the highway being shutdown for several hours.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation, Osceola County Ambulance and the Sibley Fire Department.
