Dickinson Supervisors Presented With Development Proposal

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday heard plans for a new off-lake development proposed for the east side of Big Spirit Lake.

The project would be an expansion of the Vista Del Sol development on land owned by Jerry Jones. A master plan for the area was presented to the supervisors. It calls for the eventual development of 132 lots. However, Jones said this particular portion of the project would involve 64 lots. He’s requesting the county designate the area an urban renewal district to help finance construction of a half-mile long road with turn-around; to provide interim financing to the city of Orleans to extend water to the area; and an additional 620-thousand dollars to offset other developmental costs. All total, slightly more than a million dollars in assistance is being requested from the county in the form of Tax Increment Financing. In exchange, Jones said he would deed a mile of bike trail to the Dickinson County Trails Association.

The supervisors took no action on the matter. They’ll take it up again next Tuesday.
