Dickinson Co. Awarded Federal HAVA Money For Voting Machines

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– Secretary of State Chet Culver announced Tuesday Dickinson county has been awarded 117,330-dollars to purchase new voting equipment. The funding comes from the federal Help America Vote Act, or HAVA.

The same program will result in some changes to voting precincts in Dickinson county. It requires all precincts be handicap accessible. Dickinson county has several sites that don’t meet that requirement. As a result, they are being merged with sites that do meet the standards. County officials say it simply isn’t feasible to bring the sites up to standard.

The new voting equipment and a new statewide voter registration system are expected to be up and running for this year’s primary and general elections.
