(Spirit Lake)– A traffic stop Saturday evening in Spirit Lake landed a man in jail on drug charges.
Police say they stopped a 1971 Chevrolet van at the corner of Highways nine and 71 and Erie Avenue around 9:22 p.m. The driver, 39-year-old Robert LeRoy Carlson of Spirit Lake, was found to be driving with an expired driver’s license.
Following Carlson’s arrest, a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up a substance alleged to be methamphetamine along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Carlson was booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of expired driver’s license; possession of a controlled substance–methamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver–mehamphetamine; possession of a controlled substance–marijuana; prohibited acts; possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a drug tax stamp.
The Spirit Lake Police Department’s canine “Zeke” assisted in the search of the vehicle and with a search warrant executed later on Carlson’s residence.
The case remains under investigation and authorities say more arrests are likely.
