Jackson Co. Snowmobile Accident Injures Teen

(Lakefield, Mn.)– A weekend snowmobile accident in Jackson county has resulted in serious injuries to a teenager.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 15-year-old Joseph Leopold of Okabena, Minnesota was operating a 1997 Bombadier snowmobile along Highway 86 two miles north of Windom when he apparently lost control and hit the side of a ditch.

Leopold was taken by ambulance to the Windom hospital and was transferred to Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls with numerous broken bones.

Authorities say Leopold WAS wearing a helmet.

The snowmobile was totaled.

The mishap took place shortly after 4:00 p.m. Sunday.
