(Estherville)– An Estherville bank is helping Iowa Lakes Community College purchase land needed to construct new dormitories at its campus in Estherville.
The college recently began discussions about adding two four-plex dorms just south of the existing on-campus dorms. College officials say that wasn’t an optimum location though as it would have drastically reduced the amount of green space on campus that had been tentatively identified as a possible soccer field.
The college then contacted NorthStar Bank about two lots across from Third Avenue South, just north of the current dorms. The lots were appraised at 110-thousand dollars. However, NorthStar Bank made a 50-thousand dollar donation to ILCC, offering a purchase price of 60-thousand dollars. That price was approved Tuesday by the college’s board of trustees.
College officials say the additional dorms are needed due to high occupancy rates on the Estherville campus.
