Spencer Council Awards Bridge Sewer Relocation Bid

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Meeting in special session, the Spencer city council Monday evening awarded a bid to relocate a sewer main under the north end of the Grand Avenue bridge.

The sewer needs to be moved by the end of February before the bridge replacement project gets underway. The Iowa D-O-T informed the city of the need to move the 27-inch sewer just this month when they discovered the main lies where a pylon must go for the new bridge.

The council awarded the low bid of 37,824-dollars from Vaughn DeLoss Construction of Spencer. It came in three thousand dollars over the engineer’s estimate.

Completion of the sewer relocation is slated for February 25th. Replacement of the Grand Avenue bridge is scheduled to begin in March or early April and will take a full construction season to complete.
