(Spencer)– A Spencer woman escaped injury Friday when the vehicle she was driving collided with a train at a crossing on Sixth Avenue West in Spencer.
Police say 80-year-old Velma Hamrick was southbound on Sixth Avenue West and was approaching the railroad crossing. Hamrick told officers she looked to her right, but not to the left. An Iowa, Chicago and Eastern train was westbound and sounded its whistle upon approaching the intersection. Hamrick tried to accelerate, but the locomotive collided with her vehicle.
Two thousand dollars in damage was reported to a 1997 Buick driven by Hamrick, with only some paint transfer reported to the train.
No injuries were reported.
The mishap took place around 6:30 p.m. Friday.
No charges were filed.
