(Spencer)– Getting from one end of Spencer to the other will become more of a challenge this spring as work gets underway on the replacement of the Grand Avenue bridge.
Spencer Public Works Director Blake Fonnesbeck says traffic will be reduced to one lane in both directions on the bridge. And parking on the west side of Grand Avenue between Park and Second Streets will be banned. There will also be no access to Grand Avenue from east and west Park Street.
Fonnesbeck says left turns off of Grand onto East First and Second Streets will also be prohibited due to one lane traffic in that area. He adds designated left-turn arrows for northbound traffic will be added at West First and Second Streets during the project. Drivers WILL be allowed to make left-turns onto Fourth and Fifth Streets from Grand Avenue.
Fonnesbeck added the plan is not set in stone at this point. He says the city will monitor the situation for possible changes during the project.
Work on the Grand Avenue bridge is slated to begin early this spring.
