Pursuit Leads To Charges Against Ruthven Man

(Spirit Lake)– What started off as a complaint in Arnolds Park late Tuesday evening resulted in a pursuit and a number of charges being filed against a Ruthven man.

Authorities say it all started around 11:15 p.m. when the Arnolds Park Police Department responded to a complaint call. The suspect wanted in connection with the complaint left the scene in a white 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe. The suspect was later identified as 21-year-old Nathan Rouse of Ruthven.

Spirit Lake police say the vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 71 and attempted to stop it for speeding. A pursuit ensued, ending about as soon as it started with the suspect vehicle crashing into a tree at the intersection of 178th Street and 240th Avenue. Authorities say Rouse then fled on foot. He was tracked down a short time later by Zeke…the Spirit Lake Police Department’s K-9 Unit. Rouse was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare where he was treated and released.

Rouse was booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of eluding and operating while intoxicate…both class “D” felonies; interference with official acts, driving while barred, no SR-22 Insurance and other minor traffic violations.

Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Arnolds Park, Milford and Okoboji Police Departments and the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
