Terril Woman Named New Director Of Abben Cancer Center

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Terril woman has been named the new Director of the Abben Cancer Center in Spencer.

Kris Van Kleek accepted the position this week. She replaces Brenda Tiefenthaler who was promoted to Vice President of Care Services at Spencer Hospital in August of last year.

Van Kleek will oversee all services provided through the Abben Cancer Center, including radiation therapy and medical oncology. She has been with Spencer Hospital for 24 years, most recently serving as the Assistant Director for the cancer center.

Early in her career, Van Kleek served as a registered nurse on the med-surgical unit and as a charge nurse. She has also worked as an infection-control nurse, employee-health nurse, and in-service educator. For five years she worked for Community Health, Agri-Safe and Same-day surgery.

Van Kleek received her Associates Degree in nursing from Iowa Lakes Community College and has pursued additional coursework toward her BSN.
