(Harris)– A two-vehicle crash in Osceola county Sunday has claimed the life of a Spirit Lake man.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 39-year-old William Edgar Willemssen, Junior of Spirit Lake was driving a 1993 Buick on Highway nine just west of the Harris turn-off when he attempted to pass another vehicle. Authorities say Willemssen swerved back into the eastbound lane, lost control and crossed the center line…where he collided with a 2004 Chevrolet pickup driven by 51-year-old Grant Wilken Stewart of Rock Rapids. Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles by jaws of life equipment and were taken to area hospitals. Willemssen died of his injuries while being transported. There’s no word on the extent of injuries to Stewart.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Ocheyedan Fire and Ambulance, Sibley Rescue and Ambulance, Harris Fire Department and Lake Park Rescue.
