Northwest Iowa Projects Awarded RISE Funding

(Ames)– Several projects in northwest Iowa have been awarded funding through the Iowa Department of Transportation’s RISE…or Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy Program.

The city of Emmetsburg was awarded 402,634-dollars to construct turning lanes on Highway 18 to access the Wild Rose Casino. The project is expected to create 300 new jobs along with nearly 14 million dollars in associated capital investments.

The city of Storm Lake was awarded 100-thousand dollars to assist with the relocation of 876 feet of Sunrise Park Road south of Highway Seven in conjunction with “Project Awaysis”. The 30 million dolalr project includes an 80-room lodge, conference facilities, indoor and outdoor water parks, a golf course, campgrounds, beach and restaurant. About 69 jobs will be created.

And the city of Alta will receive 100-thousand dollars to assist with the reconstruction of northeast First Street from Lake Street west about 925 feet. The new road will provide access to 33 acres of property along the north side of northeast First Street. The city plans to open the site for economic development.

A 142,632-dollar default settlement of a 2004 RISE Grant to the city of Rock Valley was also approved. The default is in connection with the failure to create an adequate number of jobs at APL Pallet Leasing.
