(Emmetsburg)– An Emmetsburg man has been arrested in connection with the theft of over 200 head of cattle in November of last year.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation four months ago into the theft of 201 head of cattle from a feedlot at 3890 425th Street near Ayrshire. The cattle were owned by Equity Livestock of Wisconsin and were valued at 240-thousand dollars.
45-year-old Gerald Schany of Emmetsburg was arrested Tuesday and charged with one count of first degree theft, three counts of first degree fraudulent practice, one count of second degree fraudulent practice, and one count of second degree theft by deception. All the charges are felonies.
Schany made his initial appearance in Palo Alto County District Court Tuesday and was released on 71-thousand dollars bond.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in its investigation by the Iowa DCI and the County Attorney’s office.
