Gruver Couple Found Shot To Death In Their Home

November 22, 2014

(Gruver)– Emmet county authorities are investigating the deaths of a Gruver couple found dead in their home Monday.

The Emmet County Sheriff’s Office said it received a 911 call around 8:18 a.m. from a male advising them of the situation. Sheriff Larry LaMack says deputies were called to 203 Second Avenue in Gruver. They requested assistance from the “MART” special entry team a short time later. Upon gaining entry to the residence, authorities found the bodies of Marvin Cox and Laura Cox…both 74-years-old. The body of the male was found on the kitchen floor while the female was found in a chair. LaMack says the two had been shot with a .22 caliber rifle.

The incident remains under investigation with the assistance of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

The Gruver Fire Department assisted in evacuating some nearby residents while authorities were on the scene.
