Changes In Curbside Yard Waste Pickup Result In Bag Confusion In SL

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A change in Spirit Lake’s curbside yard waste pick up is apparently causing some confusion.

The city is changing from clear bags to orange ones that are biodegradable. The move is intended to save city crews time. In the past they’ve had to cut open and dump out the clear bags because they aren’t biodegradeable and would cause problems with composting. City Administrator Pete Hegeman says the move to the more costly biodegradeable bags was done to save city crews time.

Hegeman says you’ll still have a chance to use the clear bags for a little while longer. He says the city will continue to pick them up a few more times this month. After that, though, all yard waste will have to be put in the yellow bags, which are available for purchase at city hall. A roll of 50 costs 25-dollars.

The clear and orange bags should NOT be confused with the light green bags…which will continue to be used for garbage ONLY.
