SL Men Arrested In P.O. Box Break-ins

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Two Spirit Lake men are accused of breaking into post office boxes at the Spirit Lake Post Office.

Spirit Lake police say they received a report around 11:45 a.m. last Friday of nine locked mailboxes that had been forcibly entered at the Spirit Lake Post Office.

Authorities executed a search warrant at Lakes Apartments, apartment 12, that turned up evidence relevant to the investigation. It resulted in the arrests of 21-year-old Joshua Chebanyuk and 41-year-old Alan Ackerman…both of Spirit Lake. They were charged with forgery-credit cards and forgery-identity theft…both aggravated misdemeanors; along with forgery and nine counts of third degree burglary…both class “D” felonies. The two men were booked into the Dickinson county jail.

Spirit Lake police were assisted by the U-S Postal Inspection Service.
