November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Spencer police are investigating a hit-and-run collision that was reported early Sunday in the 600 block of East 11th Street in Spencer.

Police say a 1938 Plymouth pickup was properly parked in the street when it was struck by a westbound vehicle described by witnesses as a white Chrysler product. A second person saw the suspect vehicle drive away and gave chase but lost site of the vehicle near the intersection of Eighth Street and Grand Avenue.

Upon further investigation authorities were able to locate the suspect vehicle. The driver, Amanda Lopez of Des Moines, was charged with failure to maintain control and striking an unattended vehicle.

The pickup sustained an estimated two-thousand dollars in damage; a 1996 Chrysler mini-van driven by Lopez sustained an estimated four thousand dollars in damage.
