Board Of Regents Updated On Presidential Selection Process

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– Officials who are trying to find the University of Iowa’s new President say they expect to pick from a smaller pool than the hundred people who were contacted as possible replacements for the top job at the University of Northern Iowa.

The Chairwoman of U-of-I’s search committee, Teresa Wahlert, says she doesn’t expect to see that many candidates because the university has set very clear and rigorous standards.

A 19-member committee will choose finalists for the U-of-I post. Wahlert says the committee will accept applications for about 90 days, and that a search firm will give special attention to female and minority candidates.

The committee needs to replace David Skorton, who left Iowa City earlier this month to become President at Cornell University in New York.

The board of regents were updated on the search process at their meeting this week in the Iowa Great Lakes.
