Two years ago Pure Fishing received a government loan to help finance an expansion project. If 44 jobs were added and retained during that period the Community Development Block Grant and Economic Development Set Aside contract would be forgiven. Ted Kourousis of the Northwest Iowa planning agency informed the Spirit Lake city council last night that the local industry would not meet its projected growth number and pay back the loan.

A leter from Pure Fishing to the city explained that the particular expansion funded by the forgivable loan did mean additional hiring, but other manufacturing jobs were dropped. The letter said Pure Fishing is attempting to hire more full and part-time employees but is having difficulty due to a tight labor market in Dickinson County.
