Worthington Boy Found In Lake Shetek

November 22, 2014

(Slayton, Mn.)– Authorities in Murray county, Minnesota have released the name of a boy who apparently drowned in a lake.

The Sheriff’s Office says six-year-old Kyle Xayphantho of Worthington fell or jumped into the Lake Shetek Inlet Monday morning.

Authorities say the incident happened when the boy was fishing with relatives in the area along Highway 59. They say the strong current swept the boy under and the temperature was about 40 degrees.

The boy was unresponsive when rescue workers found him about 30 minutes later. He was taken to an area hospital and then flown to a hospital in Sioux Falls where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities say the inlet is a popular fishing spot.
