(Emmetsburg)– Palo Alto county authorities say alcohol was a factor in a crash over the weekend that injured several teens.
The Sheriff’s Office says 18-year-old Matthew Thorsbakken of Emmetsburg was driving a 1996 Chevy cavalier southbound on a county road Saturday when he lost control. The vehicle went into the west ditch, rolling several times.
Thorsbakken and two passengers–17-year-old Nathan Jullus of Emmetsburg and 16-year-old Tiffany Gambell of West Bend were taken to the Palo Alto County Hospital. Gambell was airlifted to a Mason City hospital with serious injuries; Jullus was treated for minor injuries and released from the Palo Alto County Hospital; and Thorsbakken refused treatment.
Thorsbakken was arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated and causing serious injury by motor vehicle…a class “D” felony. Authorities say additional charges are pending.
The vehicle was totaled.
