(Spencer)– A domestic incident in Spencer Monday evening has resulted in charges against a Brooklyn Park, Minnesota man.
Spencer police say they were called to a disturbance at 1917 10th Avenue East around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Upon arriving officers found Nicole Henely, the occupant of the home, and 29-year-old Robert Haspels of Sanborn who was suffering from a swollen and bruised face.
Henely told officers her ex-fiance and father of her child, 45-year-old Kevin Kivela of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, had shown up at her home and demanded to see their daughter. Haspels refused to let Kivela inside, at which time he allegedly kicked down the door and entered the house. After spending a few minutes with his daughter, Kivela is accused of assaulting Haspels and leaving the home in a green Chevy Blazer.
Spencer police attempted to contact Kivela with no luck. But a short time later, Emmetsburg police reported they had stopped Kivela for drunk driving.
An arrest warrant has been issued by Spencer police charging Kivela with first degree burglary…a class “B” felony. He is currently being held in Palo Alto county on the OWI charge. He will be transported to Spencer following his release from Palo Alto county.
