(Estherville)– The body of a man found earlier this week in an Emmet county field has been identified as that of a missing Hampton, Iowa man.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation’s crime lab identified the victim as 18-year-old Zachary Hunter who was reported missing by Hampton police on February 15th.
Technicians used dental records to confirm the identity.
An autopsy shows Hunter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
A 12-gauge shotgun was found next to the partially decomposed body that was discovered by a farmer Monday.
Emmet County Sheriff Larry LaMack says the case is now considered closed.
