(Spirit Lake)– Law enforcement agencies nationwide, including several local agencies, are involved in a special enforcement program this week aimed at pickup drivers.
According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pickup trucks tend to be involved in roll-over crashes more often than passenger cars. Officials say pickups that rollover do not have the so-called “crush-down” zone as other vehicles because they’re engineered for more durable/off-road usage. They also say pickup drivers are less apt to wear seatbelts than drivers of other vehicles.
The Spirit Lake Police Department and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office are among the various local law enforcement agencies participating in the special enforcement campaign this week.
