Material Found In Oak Haven Care Facility Tunnel Being Tested

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The cost of improvements being made at the Oak Haven Care Facility…the former Dickinson County Home…may be about to go up some more.

The board of supervisors learned earlier this week workers discovered some pipe insulation lying on the floor of a utility tunnel at the facility. A consultant told the supervisors he isn’t sure if the material contains asbestos or fiberglass insulation. Regardless, he says it will have to be cleaned up. A representative of an asbestos abatement firm will take samples of the material and draw up a proposal for abatement.

The material was discovered by officials during an exploratory process as they begin drawing up plans and specifications to replace a boiler and other equipment at the county-owned facility.
