Water Quality Commission Accepting Grant Applications

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Water Quality Commission is accepting applications for its next round of grants for water quality improvement projects in the Iowa Great Lakes watershed.

Spokesman Steve Anderson says the commission has 200-thousand dollars in funding available in the upcoming round of grants.

Applications are available at the Dickinson County Soil and Water Conservation District office at the USDA Service Center in Spirit Lake. Applications must be returned by no later than 4:30 p.m. October 2nd.

Anderson says there’s a bit of a change to the application process this year in that the Water Quality Commission will only allocate funds for one fiscal year at a time.

The Dickinson County Water Quality Commission was formed back in 2001 through a 28E agreement involving the county and municipalities.

Anderson says since its founding, the commission has matched local funds of 837-thousand dollars eight times, bringing over six million dollars into Dickinson county to protect the lakes and their associated watersheds.
