(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council voted four-to-one Tuesday to proceed with a street lighting project along Highway 71 south between the junction with Highway Nine and the Stables…or 275th Street…along with several subdivisions on the city’s southwest side.
The council took the action after reviewing plans and specifications with engineers. Councilman Steve Balm questioned the spacing of the lights, expressing concern over the number of lights along Highway nine that were installed last year. Chad Hannish, an engineer with Howard R. Green, told the council there are certain standards that have to be followed for lighting along major thoroughfares.
Hannish told the council the project along Highway 71 south and 41st Street could be done yet this fall, with the subdivisions not being completed until this coming spring.
A bid opening on the project is scheduled for October 10th.
The council also Tuesday waived the first two considerations and adopted an ordinance establishing the position of Deputy City Clerk. That title currently doesn’t exist, and city officials say it will be necessary as someone will need to fill in until a new City Administrator is hired. Pete Hegeman retires at the end of the month.
