(Spencer)– You can expect to see an increased presence of law enforcement officers on several northwest Iowa highways over the next several weeks.
Vince Kurtz of the Iowa State Patrol tells KUOO news a concentrated enforcement project will be taking place on Iowa Highways three and nine and U-S Highway 18.
Kurtz says they’ll be looking for things such as excessive speed, seatbelt violations, driving while intoxicated, and so on.
Kurtz says some high tech equipment will be utilized in the effort, dubbed “Operation Northern Lights” including laser-sited radar, aircraft will be in the air checking speeds on the ground, and K-9 units will be deployed.
For obvious reasons, Kurtz declined to say when the special enforcement operation will be conducted.
In addition to the State Patrol, Kurtz says 33 state, city and county law enforcement agencies will be involved along with 185 officers and various resources.
