(Spirit Lake)– A high speed chase early Saturday that lasted about 11 minutes and went 17 miles through portions of Dickinson and Emmet counties landed a Michigan man in jail on several charges.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says it started around 1:30 a.m. when a deputy spotted an eastbound vehicle on Highway nine two miles west of Superior that was going 93-miles-per-hour. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, driven by 38-year-old Patrick Warren of South Haven, Michigan, but Warrent kept going.
The pursuit, reaching speeds as high as 120 miles-per-hour, continued into Emmet county and Estherville where officers again were unable to stop Warren.
The pursuit continued east on Highway Nine, to the Gruver turn-off, where Warren drove over stopsticks deployed by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office. The spikes flattened three tires and the vehicle eventually came to a stop.
Warren was taken into custody and charged with attempting to elude…a class “D” felony; operating while intoxicated…second offense…an aggravated misdemeanor; possession of a controlled substance…a serious misdemeanor; no driver’s license; and speeding…both simple misdemeanors.
Warren was booked into the Dickinson county jail on eight thousand dollars bond.
