CARES: Still More Questions Than Answers

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– They still have more questions than answers. That was the concensus of the CARES group following its second meeting Sunday in Spirit Lake.

CARES members say they’re still concerned over the lack of responses from the Spirit Lake school board on a number of issues, including what they say was the forced resignation of former High School Principal Jed Sherman.

The district’s financial woes are another concern. They want to know just how proceeds from the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy would be spent in the event the referendum is approved by voters later this month.

School officials say the CARES group and others will be able to learn more about the district’s financial situation at a session scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (3/4) at the new gym at Spirit Lake High School. An expert on school finances will be the keynote speaker.

The Spirit Lake school board will also meet in special session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (3/6) for a work session to review the proposed budget. Following that session, the public will be given a chance to make comments.

That meeting will also be held in the new gym at Spirit Lake High School.
