(Spirit Lake)—The Dickinson county board of supervisors today (Tues.) sold one of two excess buildings that were on the auction block.
Spirit Lake attorney Mike Johnson of Johnson Properties, Limited submitted the high bid of 120-thousand dollars for the former Auditor’s building at the corner of Hill Avenue and 19th Street. The building was appraised at 115-thousand. The supervisors approved the sale following a public hearing.
No one submitted a bid on the former Department of Human Services Building. It has an appraised value of 250-thousand dollars. The supervisors are now reviewing their options for disposing of that building.
In other business, Sheriff Greg Baloun informed the supervisors the city of Terril is interested in contracting with the county for law enforcement. Baloun said the city is willing to enter into a one year contract on a trial basis for 10-thousand dollars. Baloun told the supervisors it wouldn’t cause any dilution in coverage for his department, which he says already responds to many calls in Terril. The contract would be effective July 1st. The supervisors expressed their support for the agreement and directed Baloun to obtain a written contract from the city to be formally acted on at an upcoming meeting.
The supervisors also voted four-to-one today (Tues.) to re-hire Alyssa Julius as the county’s Information Technology Director at a salary of 60-thousand dollars a year. Julius has served in that capacity in the past, but left the position to go to work for a software company. Supervisor Chairman David Gottsche cast the lone no vote, saying he was concerned whether the 60-thousand dollar salary was widely publicized during the search process.
