Dickinson Co. Supervisors Warned Nature Center Project Could Exceed Estimates

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A project to rennovate a building near Kenue Park into Dickinson county’s new nature center is probably going to cost more than first thought.

That was the message John Walters of the Dickinson County Conservation Board had this (Monday) morning for the Dickinson county board of supervisors.

Walters told the supervisors four firms submitted bids on the project, with the lowest coming in at 310,765-dollars…over the architect’s estimate of 261,569-dollars. Walters said they’re working with an architect to try to bring that down.

The supervisors have allocated 285-thousand dollars for the project out of the 2009 fiscal year budget, which goes into effect July 1st. But Walters said they may need some money prior to that. Because of that, he wanted some direction from the supervisors as to whether or not to proceed from here. Several expressed their support for the project to continue. Supervisor Paul Johnson was absent.

In other business, the supervisors adopted the budget for the 2009 fiscal year following a presentation and public hearing; and they approved a request from Sheriff Greg Baloun to put dispatchers and jailers on the same pay grade in the wage matrix for the Sheriff’s Office. Baloun said the request was being made because dispatchers and jailers are now being cross-trained.
