Emmet County Nature Center Nears Completion; Fundraising Continues

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– Fundraising continues for the Emmet County Nature Center on High Lake…about 10 miles southeast of Estherville.

Steve Weisman, President of the Emmet County Conservation Board tells KUOO news the project started two years ago when they received an initial gift of 50-thousand dollars from the Mildred Stow trust. Since then, he says they’ve raised more than 300-thousand dollars and have received a grant for the project.

Meanwhile, construction on the center continues. Weisman says work on the interior is complete, with some finishing touches left on the exterior. He says all of the construction was done by Emmet county contractors and sub-contractors.

The center is in a log cabin-type building with a loft area, main level and basement. In addition to offices for the Naturalist and Conservation Board Director, the facility also includes three classrooms–two in the lower level and one on the main level.

A major fundraising event for the Emmet County Nature Center project will be held this Saturday, March 29th at the Elks Lodge in Estherville. Weisman says they’ll be holding their first annual Emmet County Nature Center banquet. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. followed by the dinner and an auction of merchandise, including numerous limited edition prints.

Tickets are available by contacting Eric Anderson, Director of the Emmet County Conservation Board, at (712) 209-2078. Tickets are $25 each with all proceeds going to the Emmet County Nature Center.
