Dickinson Supervisors Vote 3-2 To Proceed With Underground Project

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved a proposal from Alliant Energy to bury a power line in an alley just west of the courthouse in Spirit Lake.

The proposal calls for some poles in that area to be removed and the lines to be placed underground.

The project will cost the county 51,215-dollars. That’s up from previous estimates because of more boring that will be needed from what was first thought. It also reflects higher labor and materials costs.

An official with Alliant Energy told the supervisors they should be able to do the work without interrupting service to the courthouse. He added July is the earliest work could start on the project, as supplies have to be ordered.

The vote to go ahead with the project was three-to-two. Supervisors Marti Allen, Paul Johnson and Pam Jordan voted in favor while David Gottsche and Wayne Northey voted no. Northey said he was under the impression the cost of the power line relocation was going to be included in the original courthouse project.

The supervisors also Tuesday approved a law enforcement contract with the city of Terril. Provisions call for sheriff’s deputies to spend atleast 20 minutes a day patrolling in the town. The contract is to be in effect one year.
